Are GRE scores required?
No. GRE scores are not required and are not accepted as part of the application.
Are TOEFL iBT or IELTS Academic scores required?
TOEFL iBT or IELTS Academic scores are required for most applicants whose native language is not English. Some applicants may qualify for an exemption based on prior education in English. Applicants should review the current Yale GSAS English-language proficiency requirements for accepted tests, exemptions, score-reporting instructions, and deadlines. What academic background is expected?
There are no formal prerequisite courses. Strong applicants typically have preparation in one or more relevant areas, including computer science, data science, statistics, mathematics, biology, physical or chemical sciences, engineering, informatics, and health-related fields. Applicants should be prepared for rigorous quantitative and computational graduate coursework.
What is the application deadline?
The application deadline is December 1 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time for admission the following fall. Applicants should verify the deadline on the GSAS CBB M.S. program page for the application year.
Can I complete the program part-time or online?
No. The CBB M.S. is a full-time, two-year, residential program based at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Part-time and online enrollment options are not available.
What are the tuition and living costs?
Current tuition, fees, estimated living expenses, and financial-aid information are available through Yale GSAS. Where can international students find information?
International students should consult the Yale Office of International Students and Scholars and the GSAS resources for international students. Admitted students should work with OISS before beginning any internship, research placement, or employment activity that may require authorization.
Are application fee waivers available?
Yale GSAS offers application fee waivers to eligible applicants. Review the current GSAS fee-waiver criteria and instructions before submitting the application. For more details, please refer to this link.
May I apply to more than one Yale GSAS master’s program in the same year?
Applicants may apply to only one Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences program per admissions cycle. Confirm the current rule in the GSAS application instructions.
Can CBB terminal MS students apply to the CBB Ph.D. program?
Yes. Eligible CBB terminal M.S. students have two pathways to apply to the CBB Ph.D. program:

Regular Ph.D. application process: Students may apply through the standard CBB Ph.D. admissions process.

CBB M.S.-to-Ph.D. pathway: After completing at least two semesters in the M.S. program, eligible students may apply through this pathway. Admission is limited, not automatic, and is contingent upon satisfying the pathway’s research and faculty-mentorship requirements and successfully completing the terminal CBB M.S. degree before Ph.D. matriculation.

If I apply to the CBB Ph.D. program but am not admitted, will I automatically be considered for the terminal M.S.?
No. Applicants to the CBB Ph.D. program who are not admitted are not automatically considered for the terminal M.S. program. The terminal M.S. requires a separate application.
What financial opportunities may be available?
The program anticipates offering a limited number of scholarships to admitted students. Teaching Fellow and research assistant opportunities may also be available. The program will offer paid, in-person summer research opportunities, with application information generally shared with enrolled students in early November. International students must consult OISS before beginning any activity that may require employment authorization.
When should students identify a research adviser?
Students should identify a research adviser by the end of the first year or by the end of the summer following the first year so they are prepared to begin the second-year research paper sequence.
